WORCESTER, Mass. — The Holy Cross women's ice hockey team was shut out by conference opponent Merrimack 4-0. The Crusaders fall to 2-8-1 and 1-6-0 in Hockey East play while the Warriors move to 3-7-1 (2-6-1 Hockey East).
 
HOW IT HAPPENED: 

• Both defenses started strong resulting in a scoreless first period. There were just ten shots on goal, 7-3 in favor of Merrimack.
• The Warriors took advantage of a power play opportunity to take a 1-0 lead at 5:38 in the second period.
• Merrimack was able to find the back of the net, again, at 13:12 in the second. Just over two minutes later, the Warriors increased their lead to three.
• At the start of the third, Merrimack scored once again to increase the deficit to four.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:

• The Crusaders were outshot 31-20.
• The faceoff battle remained even throughout the night, ending 27-27. Freshman Alexia Moreau led the team in faceoffs. She finished the night 10-8, followed by senior Mary Edmonds who went 10-11. 
• Sophomore Carmen Elliott and Edmonds each blocked a shot during the game, adding to their season total. They now tie sophomore Emma Min with a team-high 17 blocks. 
• Junior goaltender Madison Beck posted 26 saves. After eight starts, she averages 2.597 goals-against with a save percentage of .920. 

UP NEXT: 

• Holy Cross returns to action Saturday, Nov. 5 as they travel to North Andover for the second game of the weekend series against the Warriors. Puck drop is slated for 4 p.m.
