Game Recap: Men's Ice Hockey |

Men’s ice hockey shut out by Brown

PROVIDENCE — The Holy Cross men's ice hockey team was defeated 3-0 Friday afternoon at Brown in nonconference action.

The Bears (2-6-1) broke a four game losing streak with the victory while the Crusaders (2-12-1) suffered their fifth straight defeat.

THE GOALTENDERS:
  • Crusaders: sophomore Thomas Gale 1-7-1, 23 saves, .885 save percentage.
  • Bears: Mathieu Caron 2-6-1, shutout, 24 saves, 1.000 save percentage.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Crusaders went on the power play early. Holy Cross put six shots on the cage, but none would be converted for a goal.
  • Halfway through the second period, junior Matt Guerra had a shorthanded 2-on-1 chance, but he lofted a shot just high off the mark. Junior Jack Ricketts tried to convert an open net opportunity with under six minutes left in the second, but James Crossman made a defensive save clearing the puck out of the crease.
  • The Bears set up shop in the attacking zone late in the second period. Gale made a few saves to keep the game tied but a Ryan Bottrill shot from the point snuck by Gale for the 1-0 Brown lead.
  • 1:26 into the third, the Bears increased the lead when Matt Sutton found Luke Krys for the easy top shelf tally.
  • Holy Cross pulled Gale with 4:40 left. They had a 6-on-4 power play and could not crack the scoring column.
  • Sutton scored an empty netter to ice the game.
BEYOND THE BOX:
  • This marks the third shutout loss of the season for the Crusaders.
  • The Crusaders are 0-for-22 on the man advantage since their last power play goal on Friday, Nov. 4 at Canisius.
  • Holy Cross has been outscored 19-to-4 during their last five games.
UP NEXT:
  • The Crusaders return to the Hart Center Rink Saturday, Nov. 26.
  • Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m.
