Game Recap: Men's Ice Hockey |

Seymour scores first career goal, men’s ice hockey downed by Mercyhurst

WORCESTER, Mass. — Holy Cross men's ice hockey forward Jack Seymour scored his first career goal, however, the Crusaders were upended 4-1 by Mercyhurst Saturday during matinee Atlantic Hockey Action in the Hart Center Arena.

Seymour was waiting on the right post just outside the crease. He got his stick on a shot by senior Conner Jean who received a pass from senior Nick Hale and put the puck into the net past the Mercyhurst (3-9-2, 2-2-2 AHA) goaltender for the Crusaders' (2-10-1, 2-7-1 AHA) lone tally.

THE GOALTENDERS:
  • Crusaders: sophomore Thomas Gale: 1-6-1, 12 saves, .857 save percentage.
  • Lakers: Tyler Harmon 1-4-1, 47 saves, .979 save percentage.
THREE STARS OF THE GAME:
  • 1st star: Kyler Head, Mercyhurst: one goal, one assist, two points, +1
  • 2nd star: Tyler Harmon
  • 3rd star: Marko Reifenberger, Mercyhurst: one goal, one point, +3
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Lakers got on the board 5:57 into the game. Dustin Geregach fired a puck from the blue line on net and Kyler Head picked up the rebound and put it home for the early 1-0 lead.
  • The Crusaders had 5-on-3 for 20 seconds then a two minute power play. Freshman Devin Phillips received a pass from the slot and rifled a one timer that was stopped by the Laker goalie at the 6:40 mark.
  • Holy Cross had a man advantage chance early in the third. They couldn't muster any chances on net.
  • A turnover by the Crusaders at center ice resulted in a 2-0 lead for the guests as Eric Esposito netted a goal with 7:25 left.
  • An empty netter with 2:45 to play upped the Mercyhurst edge to 3-0 before Seymour netted his first career goal.
BEYOND THE BOX:
  • Holy Cross outshot Mercyhurst 48-to-16 in the contest.
  • Both teams combined to go 0-of-8 on the power play.
