Holy Cross set to host conference opener against Vermont

The Holy Cross women's hockey team will host Hockey East opponent #14 Vermont on Oct. 8 and 9. Puck drop is slated for 1 p.m. on Saturday and 3 p.m. on Sunday at the Hart Center.
 
Both games will be broadcast on ESPN+.

THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT THE CRUSADERS (1-1-0, 0-0-0 Hockey East): 
  • Holy Cross opened their season against Union College on Sept. 30 and Oct. 1 winning 4-3 in the first contest, then falling 3-1 in the second. 
  • Freshman Alexia Moreau made her presence known on The Hill, scoring her first career points as a Crusader. She scored two goals in her first game, followed by her third goal in the second game.
  • Junior Bryn Saarela assisted on all three of Moreau's goals. They are tied as point-leaders at three apiece. Sophomore Millie Sirum ranks second in assists with two, one in each game. 
  • Sophomore defenseman Carmen Elliott and senior forward Mary Edmonds both lead the team with 4 blocked shots this year. On Friday, Edmonds recorded a goal and an assist, her second two-point game of her career.  
  • Junior Madison Beck and freshman Brooke Loranger split time in net for the Crusaders. In game one, Beck recorded 35 saves with a save percentage of .921. In her first career start as a Crusader, Loranger saved 31 shots with a save percentage of .939. 
THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT THE CATAMOUNTS (2-0-0, 0-0-0 Hockey East): 
  • Vermont comes off two straight wins against RIT on Sept. 30 and Oct. 1, winning 5-2 in both.
  • As a result of the victories, the Catamounts received a weekly honor from Hockey East. Corinne McCool was named Hockey East Player of the Week. McCool, a graduate student, had three goals and two assists over the two games and currently leads the team in points.
  • Graduate student Theresa Schafzahl and junior Natálie Mlýnková rank second in total points with four. Schafzahl had two goals and two assists while Mlýnková recorded one goal and three assists. 
  • In net for the Catamounts is junior goaltender Jessie McPherson. After two games, McPherson totaled 31 saves with a save percentage of .886 and goals-against average of 2.0. 
LAST TIME THEY MET:
  • The Crusaders were downed by the Catamounts during a weekend series during the 2021-22 season. On Jan. 17, 2022, Holy Cross fell to Vermont 3-1 before being shutout 9-0 the following day.
