Holy Cross shuts out Navy

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Holy Cross women's soccer team defeated Patriot League opponent Navy, 2-0, on Friday night.

The victory improves the Crusaders to 2-10-4 (2-5-1 Patriot League) while the Midshipmen fall to 7-7-3 overall and 3-5 in conference play.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Senior forward Katie Quinn put the Crusaders on the board in the 14 minute of play, placing the ball in the bottom right of the net. She was assisted by senior Claire Carew.
  • The defense for the Crusaders limited Navy to six shots in the first half. They only allowed two corner kicks, stopping both advances by the Midshipmen.
  • Junior forward Cerys Balmer extended the lead with under ten minutes remaining with a goal in the top center.
  • Sophomore Olivia Dubin tallied six saves on the night.

INSIDE THE BOX:
  • Carew's assist is her second in two games. She ties sophomore Ashley Blaka and junior Ellie Zern for most assists on the team.
  • This victory marks Dubin's third shutout of the season.
  • Total shots on goal were 16-13 in favor of Navy.

UP NEXT:
  • Holy Cross returns home for their final regular season match against conference opponent Colgate at 7:00 p.m.
