WORCESTER, Mass. – The Holy Cross women's soccer team was defeated 4-1 Wednesday night by Patriot League opponent Colgate, ending their 2022 season.
This was a must-win for both teams in order to clinch a seed in the postseason, in addition to a Navy loss/tie. Navy won their match against Lafayette, meaning Colgate will not advance to the postseason.
The setback finalizes the Crusaders' season record at 2-11-4, (2-6-1 Patriot League) while the Raiders finish at 3-10-4 (3-4-2 Patriot League).
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Crusaders started the scoring at 27:16 in the first half with a goal from senior Colleen McIlvenna. She was assisted by senior Katie Quinn.
- The Raiders answered with the equalizer ten minutes later with a goal from Ally Giovino.
- Holy Cross led in shots (4-2) and corners (2-1) going at the half.
- Colgate managed to score two more goals in the second half, forcing the Crusaders' season to come to an end.
INSIDE THE BOX:
- McIlvenna added one more goal to her career total. She ties her teammates Ashley Blaka and Melanie Lytle for the most points on the year with four apiece.
- Katie Quinn recorded the 21st point of her career with the assist.
- Olivia Dubin recorded four saves.
