Women's Ice Hockey

Women's hockey travels to Lake Placid for Ice Breaker Tournament

The Holy Cross women's ice hockey team will travel to Lake Placid, N.Y. to compete in the Ice Breaker Tournament on Oct. 21 and 22. Friday's game will be a 4 p.m. matchup against St. Lawrence. The winner will advance to the championship game at 5 p.m. to face either #11 Clarkson or Syracuse. The third-place game is slated for 2 p.m.

THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT THE CRUSADERS (2-4-0, 1-3-0 Hockey East): 
  • Holy Cross opened their conference play with a two-game series against #14 Vermont. The Crusaders started strong with a 2-1 victory in game one, but fell to the Catamounts 3-0 the following day. 
  • Last weekend, the Crusaders suffered two losses to Hockey East opponent Providence during the weekend series. 
  • Freshman Alexia Moreau leads the team in goals with three. Junior Bryn Saarela assisted on all of Moreau's goals becoming the team leader in assists.
  • Seniors Mary Edmonds and Darci Johal tie the leading point total with three apiece. Edmonds recorded two goals and one assist while Johal tallied one goal and two assists. 
  • Sophomore Emma Min leads the defense in blocked shots with 17. Senior Kailey Langefels and sophomores Carmen Elliott and Emilie Fortunato rank second at ten apiece. 
  • Junior Madison Beck and freshman Brooke Loranger have split time in net for the Crusaders. In four games, Beck tallied 116 saves with a save percentage of .921 and goals-against average of 2.92. Loranger has 72 saves, a save percentage of .923 and a goals-against average of 2.36 after three games.
THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT THE SAINTS (3-3-0, 0-0-0 ECAC): 
  • St. Lawrence has played six non-conference games coming into Lake Placid. Most recently, they completed two victories against Syracuse on Oct. 6 and 8. 
  • The Saints have played in two overtime games this season. In their second game of the year, they fell to Providence 3-2. More recently, they lost to #4/5 Minnesota Duluth 3-2 after the Bulldogs scored with a 4-on-3 power play advantage. 
  • Sophomore Abby Hustler and junior Julia Gosling lead the team in points with seven apiece. Hustler has four goals and three assists on the year, while Gosling has two goals and five assists.
  • Senior goaltender Lucy Morgan has appeared in all contests for the Saints this year, recording 160 saves, a .920 save percentage and a 2.31 goals-against average.
THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT THE GOLDEN KNIGHTS (6-1-1, 0-0-0 ECAC): 
  • No. 11 Clarkson has played eight non-conference games coming into Lake Placid. Most recently, they completed two victories against Syracuse on Oct. 13 and 14.
  • The Golden Knights' only loss on the year comes from Mercyhurst in the second game of a weekend series.
  • Junior Anne Cherkowski leads the team in goals with six, including two two-goal games. 
  • Seniors Darcie Lappan and Gabrielle David lead the team in assists with eight apiece. The pair rank first and second with total points, Lappan has 13 and David has 12. 
  • Junior goaltender Michelle Pasiechnyk and freshman Julia Minotti have split time in net for Clarkson. In five games, Pasiechnyk tallied two shutouts, 89 saves, a save percentage of .947 and goals-against average of 1.00. Minotti has started three times totaling 41 saves, a save percentage of .891 and goals-against average of 1.62. 
THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT THE ORANGE (1-6-0, 0-0-0 CHA): 
  • Syracuse has played seven non-conference games coming into the weekend. Most recently, they suffered two loses against Clarkson on Oct. 13 and 14. 
  • Juniors Sarah Thompson and Tatum White lead the Orange in goals with two apiece.
  • Lauren Bellefontaine leads the team in total points (5) and assists (4).
  • Goalie Arielle DeSmet, a graduate student, has started all seven games for Syracuse. She has recorded 185 saves with a save percentage of .907 and goals-against average of 2.74.  
LAST TIME THEY MET:
  • The latest matchup between Holy Cross and St. Lawrence was a weekend series during the 2020-21 season. The Crusaders were defeated by the Saints 5-1 in game one, then fell 4-1 the following day.
