WORCESTER, Mass. — The Holy Cross women's ice hockey team came up short against No. 14 Providence, falling 4-0 on Saturday, Oct. 15 at the Hart Center Rink. 

The Crusaders (2-4-0, 1-3-0 Hockey East) blocked 18 shots as a team, with senior defenseman Kailey Langefels blocking four total shots while recording three shots on goal. Sophomore defensemen Emilie Fortunato and Emma Min each blocked three shots. Junior right wing Bryn Saarela had a team-high four shots on goal.

Freshman goaltender Brooke Loranger made 29 saves in the contest.

Sara Hjalmarsson led Providence (5-1-0, 2-0-0 Hockey East) with two goals. 

HOW IT HAPPENED: 

• The Crusaders outshot Providence 7-5 in the opening frame, but were unable to get on the board. 
• Providence had a 16-4 edge in shots on goal in the second period. The Friars opened the scoring at 14:34 of the second period, with Rachel Weiss recording a goal. Just 20 seconds later, Delaney Couture extended that lead to 2-0. 
• Hjalmarsson scored 6:31 into the third frame, and added an empty-netter with 17 seconds left to secure the 4-0 win.

UP NEXT: 

• The Crusaders will head to the Ice Breaker Tournament in Lake Placid, N.Y. at the Lake Placid Olympic Center. 
• Holy Cross will play St. Lawrence on Oct. 21 before facing either Clarkson or Syracuse on Oct. 22.
