Men's ice hockey downs Boston College in exhibition

WORCESTER, Mass. — The Holy Cross men's ice hockey team defeated the Boston College Eagles in an exhibition, winning 3-2 on Saturday, Oct. 1 at the Hart Center Rink.

The Hart Center Rink hosted a full house of Crusader fans wearing pink to support HC for a Cure and breast cancer awareness.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Junior center Matt Guerra scored the first goal of the season on a power play just 4:44 into the first period with an assist from junior left wing Jack Ricketts.
  • The Eagles managed to tie the score with a power-play goal from Cutter Gauthier at 14:15 of the first period.
  • The Crusaders regained the lead when Ricketts scored at 14:29 of the second period with an assist from Guerra.
  • Guerra brought the Crusaders ahead by two when he broke away from the pack on a power play and scored on BC goaltender Henry Wilder with an assist from Ricketts at 4:00 of the third period.
  • Colby Ambrosio scored a power-play goal for the Eagles with 1:20 remaining in regulation, bringing the score to 3-2 in favor of the Crusaders.
  • A five-minute overtime and shootout were held in preparation for the upcoming seasons. The score held through overtime and the Crusaders emerged victorious in the shootout.
UP NEXT:
  • The Crusaders will officially begin their season at North Dakota on Friday, Oct. 7, and Saturday, Oct. 8 at the Ralph Englestad Arena in Grand Forks, N.D.
