SPRINGFIELD, Mass. — The Holy Cross men's ice hockey team came up short while facing American International College, falling 3-1 on Thursday, Jan. 27 at the MassMutual Center.
Junior center
Bobby Young scored the only goal of the day for the Crusaders (6-18-2, 4-11-2 AHA). Zak Galambos had both an empty-net goal and an assist on the night for AIC (14-9-1, 13-4-0 AHA). Yellow Jackets goaltender Jake Kucharski stopped 17 of the 18 shots on goal he faced.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Julius Jahonen put the Yellow Jackets on the board at 6:01 of the second period to give them a 1-0 lead. At 18:25 of the second, Brian Rigali scored on the power play to bring AIC's advantage to 2-0.
- Young scored an unassisted, shorthanded goal at 2:48 of the third period to bring Holy Cross within a goal.
- Galambos tacked on an empty-netter to secure a 3-1 victory for AIC with 1:18 remaining.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
- Young scored the first shorthanded goal for the Crusaders this season and the first since Nov. 22, 2020, where then-junior forward Anthony Vincent had a shorthanded tally against LIU.
UP NEXT:
- Holy Cross will return to the MassMutual Center for a rematch against AIC at noon on Sunday, Jan. 29 in Springfield.Â
