WORCESTER, Mass. — The Holy Cross women's ice hockey team fell to Vermont, 3-1, on Monday, Jan. 17 at the Hart Center Rink.
Senior right wing Sommer Ross scored the lone goal of the day for the Crusaders (3-17-0, 1-14-0 Hockey East), marking her second goal of the season; junior center Carly Beniek picked up her third assist of the year on the tally. Senior goaltender Jada Brenon made 35 saves for Holy Cross.
Theresa Schafzahl had a pair of power-play goals in the first period for Vermont (12-9-2, 9-6-1 Hockey East), with Maude Poulin-Labelle picking up an assist on both goals.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Schafzahl scored at 11:12 and 17:52 of the first period, with both tallies coming on the power play, to build an early lead for the Catamounts.
- After having an initial shot attempt blocked, Ross was able to connect on a second attempt and cut the Vermont lead in half at 14:36 of the second period.
- Just 1:59 into the third period, Reagan Miller secured an insurance goal for the Catamounts; that 3-1 lead held for the remainder of the contest.
