WORCESTER, Mass. – Freshman forward
Ashley Blaka tallied a goal and an assist as the Holy Cross women's soccer team defeated Bryant 3-0 at Linda Johnson Smith Stadium. The Crusaders improve to 1-5-0 on the season with the win, while the Bulldogs fall to 0-4-0 overall.
Holy Cross jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the seventh minute, when Blaka found junior forward
Colleen McIlvenna in the left side of the box for a goal from 10 yards out. Then in the 22nd minute, Blaka took a throw in from senior defender
Caroline Harkins outside the box in the right corner and lofted a long shot into the upper left corner of the net for a goal. The Crusaders then put the game away in the 62nd minute, when sophomore forward
Samantha Adams sent a long pass down the field to junior forward
Katie Quinn, who dribbled into the right side of the box before scoring from 16 yards away.
Freshman goalkeeper
Olivia Dubin picked up her first career shutout while making four saves. Jessica Rinaldi had four saves with three goals allowed for the Bulldogs.
Holy Cross finished the game with a 13-12 advantage in shots and a 9-8 edge in corner kicks.
The Crusaders return to action on Thursday, Sept. 9, when they play host to Rhode Island at 7:30 p.m.
