Holy Cross shuts out Sacred Heart 2-0

WORCESTER, Mass. – Senior forward Max Krause and senior forward Dylan Scanley both scored goals as the Holy Cross men's soccer team defeated Sacred Heart 2-0 at Linda Johnson Smith Stadium. The Crusaders improve to 2-0-1 on the season with the win, while the Pioneers fall to 0-3-0 overall.

After a scoreless first half, Krause put Holy Cross on the board in the 67th minute when he blasted home a pass from junior midfielder Matt McGonigle form 22 yards out at the top of the penalty box. The in the 76th minute, Scanely scored off a feed from freshman forward Evan Jones from 20 yards away to make it a 2-0 game.

Junior goalkeeper Jimmy Joyce posted his first career shutout while making two saves. Justin Siegel had two saves and two goals allowed for Sacred Heart.

The Crusaders finished the night with a 9-5 advantage in shots and a 4-3 edge in corner kicks.

Holy Cross returns to action on Tuesday, Sept. 7, when it plays host to UMass Lowell at 6:00 p.m.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
• The shutout was the first by the Crusaders since they defeated Brown 1-0 on Oct. 22, 2019.
• Holy Cross' six goals scored in its first three games of the year have come from six different players.
• The Crusaders' 2-0-1 start to the year is their best through three games since they began the 2006 campaign at 3-0-0.
