Holy Cross downs Patriot League preseason favorite Loyola 1-0

BALTIMORE, Md. – Junior forward Dylan Scanley scored the only goal of the game as the Holy Cross men's soccer team defeated Loyola (Md.) 1-0 at the Ridley Athleic Complex. The Crusaders improve to 5-2-2 overall and 2-0-0 in the Patriot League with the victory, while the Greyhounds fall to 2-3-2 on the year and 1-1-0 in the conference.

In the 50th minute, freshman defender Marcus Williams sent a cross from the left corner which junior midfielder Matt McGonigle one-timed toward the front of the goal. Scanley was waiting there to knock the ball into the net from two yards out in the center of the box.

Junior goalkeeper Jimmy Joyce posted this third shutout of the season while making three saves. Chase Vosvick had three saves and one goal allowed for Loyola.

Both teams took 11 shots on the day, while the Crusaders held an 8-4 advantage in corner kicks.

Holy Cross returns to action on Wednesday, Sept. 29, when it plays host to Colgate at 6:00 p.m.
