NEWTON, Mass. – Junior forward
Colleen McIlvenna tied a school single-game record with three assists, but the Holy Cross women's soccer team was defeated by Boston College 5-3 at the Newton Soccer Complex. The Crusaders fall to 1-7-0 on the season, while the Eagles improve to 6-1-1 overall.
Boston College opened the scoring in the 17th minute on a goal by Samantha Agresti. Less than three minutes later, Holy Cross tied the score at 1-1 on the first career goal for junior forward
Shelley Blumsack. Then in the 30th minute, senior midfielder
Olivia Ferrara scored her first goal of the season to put the Crusaders up 2-1.Â
After the break, Holy Cross increased its lead to 3-1 in the 59th minute as junior forward
Katie Quinn scored her team-leading third goal of the year. But the Eagles came back to score four times in the final 20 minute of the game to claim a 5-3 win.Â
Boston College finished the day with a 27-7 advantage in shots and a 9-3 edge in corner kicks.
The Crusaders return to action on Saturday, Sept. 18, when they travel to American for their Patriot League opener at 3:00 p.m.
BEYOND THE BOXSCOREÂ
• McIlvenna, who assisted on all three of the Crusaders' goals, became the third player in program history to record three assists in a single game.
• Previously, Audrey Smith had three assists against Lafayette on Oct. 26, 1991, and Courtney Cohen tallied three assists against St. Peter's on Sept. 11, 2015.
• Holy Cross' three goals scored are the most it has ever recorded against Boston College in the 21-game history of the series.
