WORCESTER, Mass. – Freshman midfielder
Jon Klein scored the first goal of his collegiate career, as the Holy Cross men's soccer team played Iona to a 1-1 double overtime tie at Mazzella Field. The Crusaders move to 3-0-2 on the season, while the Gaels now stand 0-3-1 overall.
Holy Cross opened the scoring in the 33rd minute, converting on a set piece where senior midfielder
Max Krause fed the ball into the box. Klein headed home the pass from Krause, putting Holy Cross in front 1-0. Iona responded in the 86th minute, when Lenworth Lopez scored off a corner kick by Edu Calvo-Salinas to tie the game at 1-1. Neither team was able to score again in regulation or in overtime, as the game ended in a tie.

Jimmy Joyce made a career-high six saves on the day, while Zach Nelson had two saves for Iona.
The Gaels finished the afternoon with a 20-7 advantage in shots, while the Crusaders held a 7-6 edge in corner kicks.
Holy Cross returns to action on Tuesday, Sept. 14, when it travels to Boston College for a 7:00 p.m.
