NEWTON, Mass. – Freshman forward
Evan Jones and senior midfielder
Max Krause both scored goals, but the Holy Cross men's soccer team was defeated by Boston College 3-2 in overtime at the Newton Soccer Complex. The Crusaders fall to 3-1-2 on the season, while the Eagles improve to 3-1-1 overall.
The game was scoreless until the 79th minute, when Stefan Sigurdarson gave Boston College a 1-0 lead with a goal off a pass from Sam White. Holy Cross responded just over a minute later, when Kruase sent a pass down the center of the field to a streaking Jones, who dribbled into the box and eluded the goalkeeper before scoring from 10 yards out on the right side.
Boston College came right back less than a minute later with Sigurdarson's second goal of the night to reclaim the lead. Then in the 84th minute, senior forward
Dylan Scanley found Krause on the top right side of the penalty box, where he dribbled around a defender and scored from 17 yards out to tie the game at 2-2. The game would later go to overtime, where Mike Suski scored the game winner for the Eagles on a penalty kick after a foul in the box.
Boston College finished the game with a 24-7 advantage in shots and a 7-3 edge in corner kicks.
Holy Cross returns to action on Saturday, Sept. 18, when it plays host to American in its Patriot League opener at 12:00 p.m.
