Volleyball drops to New Hampshire, Connecticut

HANOVER, N.H.— On day one of the Dartmouth Invitational, the Holy Cross volleyball team fell to New Hampshire, 3-2, and Connecticut, 3-1.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • In a rematch from this past Wednesday, Holy Cross once again took on New Hampshire. The Wildcats took sets one and two by scores of 25-12 and 25-20, respectively.
  • Holy Cross rebounded in sets three and four claiming set victories, 25-22 and 25-17, respectively to tie the match at 2-2. With the match pushed to a decisive fifth set, Holy Cross was down 8-3 early. The Crusaders would  then rattle off four-straight points to come within one, before the Wildcats used a run of their own to eventually win, 15-10 and the match 3-2.
  • In the second match of the day, UConn won set one, 25-18, and set two, 25-15, to jump out to an early 2-0 lead.
  • The Crusaders took set three from the Huskies, 25-23, powered by two four-point runs, where Courtney Rasic and Halle Carter held serve. The Huskies eventually took set four, 25-18, to claim the 3-1 victory.
BEYOND THE BOX:
  • Junior Halle Carter posted 35 assists against UNH and 33 against UConn, marking the fifth and sixth time, respectively, she's had more than 30 assists in a game.
  • Senior Skye Daval-Santos posted back-to-back 20-plus dig games with a season-high 27 against UNH and 21 against UConn.
  • Junior Gracyn Benck led all players in the UNH match with 16 kills and followed it up with a 12-kill outing against the Huskies.
  • Freshman Abbie Lane posted the third double-double of her young career with 13 kills and 10 digs against New Hampshire.
UP NEXT:
  • Holy Cross will face Dartmouth on Saturday, Sept. 11 at 11 a.m. to close out its time at the Dartmouth Invitational.
