Holy Cross set to face Siena in home opener

The Holy Cross women's soccer team will play its first home game of the year when it faces Siena on Monday, Aug. 23, at 3:00 p.m. The game was originally scheduled for Sunday afternoon, but was moved due to Hurricane Henri.

Things to Know About the Crusaders (0-1, 0-0 PL):
• Holy Cross opened the season on Thursday night, when it suffered a 2-0 loss at UMass Lowell. 
• The Crusaders are coming off an abbreviated 2021 spring season in which they went 1-3 overall.
• Holy Cross returns all five players from last year who recorded at least one point, including all three goal scorers in senior midfielder Lexi Ansaldi, junior forward Katie Quinn and sophomore forward Ellie Zern.
• On the defensive side, the Crusaders bring back both senior defender Avery Gardner and junior defender Erin Goss who started all four games last year.
• During the UMass Lowell game, freshman goalkeeper Olivia Dubin totaled 19 saves, the most by a Crusader in a single game in over 19 years. Here is a look at the top performances by Holy Cross goalkeepers since 2005:

Scouting the Saints (1-0, 0-0 MAAC):
• Seina stands 1-0 so far this season, after opening the season with a 2-0 victory over Binghamton on Thursday. 
• Junior forward Katrina Kurtz tallied a goal and an assist against the Bearcats, while sophomore goalkeeper Brooke Boermeester made a career-high eight saves.
• The Saints are coming off a 2021 spring season in which they went 6-1-2 overall, won the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference title and advance to the NCAA Tournament.

Series History:
• Holy Cross holds an 11-8-2 lead in the all-time series between the schools, with the last meeting coming during the 2015 season.
• On Aug. 21, 2015, the Crusaders and the Saints played to a 3-3 double overtime tie in Worcester. Sarah Price scored two goals for Holy Cross, while Madison Vasquez had two goals and an assist for Siena.
