LOWELL, Mass. – Freshman goalkeeper
Olivia Dubin totaled 19 saves in her collegiate debut, but the Holy Cross women's soccer team was defeated by UMass Lowell 2-0 at Cushing Field. The Crusaders open the season at 0-1, while the River Hawks start the year at 1-0.
The River Hawks opened the scoring in the 21st minute, when Ioanna Papatheodorou found the net from 20 yards out in the center of the field. UMass Lowell then increased its advantage to 2-0 in the 39th minute, as Anna Edson scored from just outside the penalty box on the right wing.
The River Hawks outshot the Crusaders 28-6 on the night, in addition to holding a 13-4 advantage in corner kicks.
Holy Cross returns to action on Sunday, Aug. 22, when it plays host to Siena at 2:00 p.m.

• Dubin's 19 saves were the most by a Crusader in a single game in over 16 years.
• Dubin also tied for the seventh-most saves in a single game by any Division I player in the last five years.
