  • Cichocki (2-for-4)
  • Sweeney (2-for-3)
W: Black (7-2)
L: DiLauro (1-2)

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • After Holy Cross starter Jack DiLauro and Lehigh starting pitcher Mason Black traded three shutout frames, Lehigh broke through first in the top of the fourth with a pair of RBI singles.
  • Third baseman Joe Gorla knocked a three-run homer in the fifth to extend Lehigh's lead to 5-0.
  • Holy Cross loaded up the bases in the bottom of the ninth after a pair of walks and a single by junior catcher Angelo D'Acunto; Black struck out the next two batters and drew a groundout to end the Holy Cross threat and preserve the shutout.
GAME TWO:
Lehigh 5, Holy Cross 4

STATS LEADERS:
Holy Cross:
  • Dudunakis (2-for-3, double, RBI)
  • Meyer (2-for-4, run scored, stolen base)
  • Kirkpatrick (2-for-4, run scored)
  • McElroy (2-for-3)
  • Lopes (4.0 IP, no runs, one hit, two strikeouts)
Lehigh:

  • Davis (1-for-3, two runs scored, stolen base)
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Lehigh got on the board first with a two-run third.
  • The Crusaders cut the Mountain Hawks' lead in half in the bottom of the third; second baseman Sam Kirkpatrick was able to score on a fielder's choice.
  • Lehigh's lead grew to 5-1 by the fifth inning.
  • Holy Cross cut within one run after a three-run sixth. A double to left-center by senior right fielder Peter Dudunakis brought home senior shortstop Cam Meyer, and senior left fielder Evan Blum scored on a wild pitch. Dudunakis later scored on an RBI groundout.
  • Senior right-hander Eric Lopes threw four shutout innings of relief; the Crusaders were unable to rally in the final innings, a diving catch and subsequent double play by Lehigh right fielder Eric Cichocki in the eighth robbed the Crusaders of a potential game-tying opportunity.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
  • Holy Cross' Game 2 starter, Garret Keough, struck out seven batters, a career high.
  • With his runner caught stealing this season in the first game, D'Acunto now has thrown out 15 runners this year – eight more than any other catcher in the Patriot League.
DUE UP:
  • Holy Cross will host Lehigh for a doubleheader on Sunday, May 9 beginning at noon in the teams' regular-season finale.
