WORCESTER, Mass. – Holy Cross senior
Madeline Downey been selected to the 2021 Academic All-Patriot League women's rowing team, as announced by the conference office. To be eligible, a student-athlete must have reached sophomore academic standing with at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average, and be a starter or key reserve.
Downey, who was named second team All-Patriot League this season, was a member of the varsity eight for all five of the Crusaders' races this spring. She rowed in the stroke seat twice and in the sixth seat on three occasions. Downey helped Holy Cross to sixth place in the varsity eight and fifth in the overall team competition at the Patriot League Championship, good for the squad's best finish since 2015. She is also a three-time selection to the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll, and earned Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association Scholar Athlete honors in 2019. In the classroom, Downey carries a cumulative grade point average of 3.82 with a major in English.
