WORCESTER, Mass. – Senior
Clare Honan, a member of the Holy Cross volleyball team, has been selected as the 2020-21 Crusader of the Year. The most prestigious student-athlete award presented by the Holy Cross Varsity Club, the Crusader of the Year goes to a senior who has excelled not only in varsity athletics, but also in the classroom and the community, and has been prominent in campus activities.
A three-year team captain, Honan started all 11 of the Crusaders' matches as a senior and earned first team All-Patriot League honors while finishing the season with a team-high 91 kills. She also led the Patriot League with 45 blocks this year and set a school single-season record with an average of 1.05 blocks per set. Honan finished her four-year career with 722 kills and 266 blocks, becoming just the second player in program history with at least 700 kills and 200 blocks.
In the classroom, Honan carries a 3.82 grade point average with a major in political science and is a member of the Alpha Sigma Nu and Pi Sigma Alpha honor societies. She was named to the Academic All-Patriot League team as a senior, and is a three-time selection to the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll. Honan also served as a mentor with Big Brothers Big Sisters and was the co-publicist for the Holy Cross Feminine Forum. In addition, she was a volunteer leader with the Pennsylvania Democratic Party and an intern on numerous political campaigns.
