WORCESTER, Mass. – The Holy Cross baseball team won both games of a Patriot League doubleheader against Bucknell on Saturday, April 3 at Hanover Insurance Park at Fitton Field.
Paced by impressive pitching performances – highlighted by an 11-strikeout, complete-game shutout by sophomore right-hander
Jack DiLauro in Game 1 – the Crusaders (3-7, 2-5 Patriot League) won their third straight contest. Senior right fielder
Peter Dudunakis had five RBI on the day, while freshman second baseman
Sam Kirkpatrick drove in four runs between the two games against Bucknell (5-11, 5-7 Patriot League).
GAME ONE:
Holy Cross 7, Bucknell 0 (seven innings)

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Holy Cross' first seven batters reached base; three runs scored after Dudunakis walked, sophomore center fielder Ben Dellacono was hit by a pitch and senior first baseman Andrew Selima walked. After a pitching change, Kirkpatrick walked to give the Crusaders a 4-0 advantage with nobody out in the first.
- Dudunakis had a sacrifice fly to score freshman third baseman Thomas Latham and extend the lead to 5-0 in the second inning.
- With one out in the third, Kirkpatrick singled, and junior catcher Angelo D'Acunto had a two-out double to put runners on second and third. Wolf had an RBI single to tack on another run for the Crusaders.
- The Bison did not get their first hit of the day until the fourth inning, but DiLauro struck out the next two batters.
- Latham scored the Crusaders' final run of the contest off an RBI groundout in the sixth.
- Bucknell drew a two-out walk off of DiLauro in the seventh inning, but DiLauro finished off the complete-game shutout with a fly ball to right field.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Bucknell put a pair of runs on the board in the top of the first, with an unearned run scoring on a sac fly and a second unearned run scoring on a close play at the plate.
- That score held until the bottom of the fourth. The Crusaders loaded the bases after Latham walked, Dudunakis reached on a fielding error and Dellacono walked. Kirkpatrick cleared the bases with a stand-up double, giving Holy Cross a 3-2 advantage.
- Bucknell had three straight singles to load up the bases in the fifth. Senior right-hander Eric Lopes entered the game in relief, and drew a strikeout, pop up and another strikeout to keep the Crusaders in the lead.
- Dellacono reached on an error by the third baseman in the bottom of the fifth, scoring a pair of runs to extend Holy Cross' lead to 5-2.
- After senior left fielder Evan Blum was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to push the lead to 6-2, Dudunakis had a bases-clearing double to make it a 9-2 game.
- Latham scored a run in the bottom of the eighth to push the advantage to 10-2.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
- DiLauro's 11 strikeouts bested his previous single-game career high of six. His seven innings pitched were also a career high.
- DiLauro's 11 strikeouts are the most in a single game by a Crusader since Brendan King struck out 12 batters against South Florida on March 12, 2016.
- DiLauro has allowed just one earned run in his three starts this season.
- Kirkpatrick and Dudunakis are tied for the team lead with 10 RBI on the year.
- Chudy and Lopes also posted career highs with four strikeouts.

- The Crusaders and Bison will finish out the weekend series with a doubleheader on Sunday, April 4 at Hanover Insurance Park at Fitton Field.
