BOSTON – The Holy Cross softball team dropped a pair of games to Boston University Friday afternoon. The Crusaders kept both contests close for the majority of the time, but the Terriers would open up big leads in the sixth inning of each game.
In game one,
Erin Bengston was 2-for-3 with one home run, one double, three RBI, and one run.
Jessie Nagel and
Bailey Bates each scored a run as well. In game two, Jess Mott was 2-for-2 with one walk.
Kelly Nelson got the start in the circle in the first game with
Megan Yurchick getting the nod in the second. Nelson struck out two batters on the day to Yurchick's four.
GAME 1: BU 11, HC 3
The first matchup of the day started off relatively slow with BU scoring once in the first and then twice in the fourth. The Terriers would still have a 3-0 lead entering the sixth inning when things opened up.
The Crusaders started their half of the inning when Bates reached on an error and Nagel singled. With two on, Bengston sent an absolute bomb to left field for her second home run of the year that tied the game at three.
In the bottom half of the sixth, the Terriers responded in a big way. The home team used four hits, four walks and one error to plate eight more and end the game after six.
GAME 2: BU 7, HC 0
The Terriers got out to an early lead in the second game of the day, putting three on the board in the first inning after three hits and an error. Yurchick would keep them off the board after that until they added one more in the fourth.
Holy Cross put two runners on in the fifth after Mott singled and
Olivia Eckelman walked, but the Crusaders would strand both.
After three more runs for BU in the sixth, Holy Cross had one more chance in the seventh. The Crusaders would put two on again after Yurchick was hit by a pitch and Mott picked up her second single of the game, but the contest would end with runners on first and third.
