Game Recap: Field Hockey |

Field hockey falls 2-1 to BU in season opener

WORCESTER, Mass. – The Holy Cross field hockey team lost a close one to Boston University 2-1 Sunday afternoon at the Hart Turf Field.

The Terriers started the game fast when Kathryn Scheerer converted on a penalty corner in just the second minute of action. The Crusaders would answer back late in the first when Kristen Weber scored the team's first goal of the season. Minke Koomen sent in a shot on goal that was saved, but Weber was there to collect the rebound and tie the game at one.

The Crusaders outshot BU 5-3 in the first quarter, but the first frame would end knotted at one. As would the first half as the two sides each had three shots apiece in the second quarter, but none found the back of the net.
The second half started off quiet as both teams combined for only four shots in the third quarter. Despite multiple opportunities with possession in the circle, the Crusaders just weren't able to generate the dangerous look on net they were looking for.

With under three minutes to go in the game, the Terriers' Rebecca Janes, who assisted on the first goal, found the game-winner on a diagonal shot through traffic.

The Crusaders will have a bye next week so they won't be back in action until March 21 at Colgate.
