WORCESTER, Mass. – The Holy Cross women's soccer team lost to Boston University 1-0 Sunday afternoon. It was the Crusaders' Senior Day.
The Terriers turned on the pressure early with sustained control in Holy Cross' half for much of the first half. Luckily for the Crusaders,
Sophia Lettieri was on her toes in goal coming up with six saves in the first 45 minutes of action.
BU was able to get on the board in the 23
rd minute when Jenna Oldham sent a cross into the box from the left flank. It was deflected out off a defender where a charging Geovanna Pereira was able to stuff it home from inside the six.
Holy Cross began the second half with some pressure of its own, recording their first shot on goal just a few minutes into the half. The Crusaders tried to take advantage down the right side with runs by
Katie Quinn and Clare Carew throughout the second half of action, but were never quite able to connect on a dangerous scoring opportunity. Quinn finished the game with two shots, both on goal, while Carew had one.
The Terriers would wind down the clock over the final few minutes and not allow the Crusaders to get another look on goal to hang on for the 1-0 win.
Lettieri ended the day with a season-high nine saves.
