BRIDGEPORT, Conn. – Freshman guard
Kyrell Luc scored a game-high 16 points, but the Holy Cross men's basketball team was defeated by Fairfield 74-59 at Webster Bank Arena. The Crusaders fall to 2-8 overall, while the Stags improve to 6-3 on the year.
Holy Cross made 45.8 percent of its field goal attempts on the night, but only connected on 38.1 percent of its shots in the second half. Fairfield hit 52.6 percent of its shots from the floor while holding a 36-23 rebounding advantage.Â
The Stags started the game hot, jumping out to a quick 10-2 lead after the first three minutes of action. The Crusaders scored the next five points to close the gap, and later trailed 28-25 with five minutes remaining before the break. Holy Cross then closed out the half with an 8-0 run to take a 33-28 advantage into the locker room.
The Crusaders were able to extend their lead to six points (38-32) early in the second half, and still led by four (46-42) with 11:55 left to play. Fairfield scored the next eight points to pull back in front, and later held a 54-50 edge with 7:45 on the clock. The Stags then used an 11-0 run to take control, and would lead by at last 13 points the rest of the way.
Sophomore guard
Bo Montgomery finished the game with 13 points and two rebounds. Allan Jeanne-Rose led Fairfield with 15 points and two blocked shots.
The Crusaders return to action on Saturday, Dec. 11, when they play host to Siena at 2:00 p.m.
