WORCESTER, Mass. – Holy Cross women's basketball senior
Avery LaBarbera scored 13 points and corralled a game-high 11 rebounds en route to her fifth career double-double in a 57-55 setback to non-conference opponent Brown University Saturday afternoon at the Hart Center Arena. The loss evens the Crusaders' record to 4-4 while the Bears move to 3-6.
It was LaBarbera's second double-double of the week (20pts., 10reb. vs. URI) as she tied the contest at 55-55 via a second chance wing trifecta with seven seconds to go, however, Amanda Latkany knocked down two clutch freebies with two seconds left to win the game. A last chance running three-point attempt was off the mark for Holy Cross as their three game winning streak was snapped.
Sophomore
Bronagh Power-Cassidy produced a contest-best 18 points which were a season-high for the guard. Brown had three players in double-figures led by Latkany's 15 markers.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Brown started the game on a 17-2 run over the opening minutes scoring seven points off four 'Sader turnovers while Charlotte Jewell drilled a triple for the final points of the binge. Freshman Grace Munt was the catalyst of an 8-2 mini run for Holy Cross while LaBarbera and Power-Cassidy traded three-balls to put the hosts down nine 19-10 following the first quarter.
- Power-Cassidy continued the scoring stretch for the home team with a jumper bringing it down to a seven point 19-12 score. Kyla Jones briefly regained the double-digit edge for Brown but the Crusaders used another run, 10-2 to pull within two, 25-23. Trailing by three, junior Addisyn Cross picked off a pass and found LaBarbera for the hoop and harm to tie the game.
- A Jewell second chance three reclaimed the two-possession edge at 41-34 with 3:02 left in the third. In the fourth, senior Kelly Petro tipped and grabbed an offensive rebound and found a cutting Power-Cassidy from the top of the point to level the duel at 50. Jewell went to the line and split one of two free throws which led to the game-tying three.
OUTSIDE THE BOX:
- Petro was two points shy of her first collegiate double-double as she recorded a personal-high 10 rebounds.
- Power-Cassidy has tallied double-digit points in three straight games and the Crusaders are 2-1 in those games.
