Holy Cross drops to UConn

WORCESTER, Mass.— Despite a first period tally from junior Darci Johal, the Holy Cross women's hockey team fell to the University of Connecticut Huskies, 4-1, on Saturday afternoon at Hart Center Rink.

Johal continued on with her career season for the Crusaders (2-14-0, 1-11-0 Hockey East), notching her fifth goal of the season to get the scoring started for both teams. Sophomore Grace Johnson had the helper on Johal's tally.

UConn (14-4-2, 8-3-2 Hockey East) equalized midway through the second period and never looked back, tallying four unanswered goals. The Huskies notched a power-play goal with 14 seconds left in the second and then carried that momentum into the third where they scored 1:06 into the frame to take a 3-1 lead.

Connecticut closed out the scoring with an empty net goal with 38 seconds left to push the final score to 4-1.

Sophomore Madison Beck finished with 32 saves, while UConn's Megan Warrener turned away 25 shots. Junior Mary Edmonds and freshman Emma Min tied to lead all players with four blocks.
