WORCESTER, Mass.— Freshman
John Gelatt scored his first two career goals to lead the Holy Cross men's hockey team to a 3-2 victory over Niagara on Saturday night at Hart Center Rink. With the win, the Crusaders earned the weekend split with the Purple Eagles in Atlantic Hockey action.
Each side got on the board in the first period, with sophomore
Matt Guerra lighting the lamp for the Crusaders (4-13-1, 3-6-1 AHA) just 1:22 into the game. Sophomores
Lucas Thorne and
Jack Ricketts had assists on the goal. The Purple Eagles (3-9-2, 3-3-2 AHA) equalized the score with just over five minutes left in the period. Niagara then scored on the power play at the 6:41 mark of the second period to take a 2-1 lead.
Freshman
John Gelatt tallied the first goal of his collegiate career and first of the night to tie the game at 2-2 on the power play in the second frame. Juniors
Mike Higgins and
Matt Radomsky had assists on the goal. Radomsky's assist marks the first time a Crusader netminder has recorded an assist since Dec. 1, 2018 when then-freshman
Erik Gordon recorded one against AIC.
Gelatt's second goal of the night, the game-winner, was also on the power play. Gelatt's game-winning tally came at the 14:58 mark of the third period with assists from sophomore
Tyler Ghirardosi and
Mike Higgins.
Radomsky picked up his third win of the season, turning away 27 shots from the Purple Eagles.

The Crusaders will return to action in 2022 with a non-conference tilt against Vermont on Tuesday, Jan. 4 at 7 p.m. in Hart Center Rink.
