Game Recap: Men's Ice Hockey |

Gelatt scores twice to lead Crusaders over Niagara

WORCESTER, Mass.— Freshman John Gelatt scored his first two career goals to lead the Holy Cross men's hockey team to a 3-2 victory over Niagara on Saturday night at Hart Center Rink. With the win, the Crusaders earned the weekend split with the Purple Eagles in Atlantic Hockey action.

Each side got on the board in the first period, with sophomore Matt Guerra lighting the lamp for the Crusaders (4-13-1, 3-6-1 AHA) just 1:22 into the game. Sophomores Lucas Thorne and Jack Ricketts had assists on the goal. The Purple Eagles (3-9-2, 3-3-2 AHA) equalized the score with just over five minutes left in the period. Niagara then scored on the power play at the 6:41 mark of the second period to take a 2-1 lead.

Freshman John Gelatt tallied the first goal of his collegiate career and first of the night to tie the game at 2-2 on the power play in the second frame. Juniors Mike Higgins and Matt Radomsky had assists on the goal. Radomsky's assist marks the first time a Crusader netminder has recorded an assist since Dec. 1, 2018 when then-freshman Erik Gordon recorded one against AIC.

Gelatt's second goal of the night, the game-winner, was also on the power play. Gelatt's game-winning tally came at the 14:58 mark of the third period with assists from sophomore Tyler Ghirardosi and Mike Higgins.

Radomsky picked up his third win of the season, turning away 27 shots from the Purple Eagles.
