SOUTH BEND, Ind.— The Holy Cross men's hockey team fell to the No. 17 Notre Dame Fighting Irish, 5-2, on Thursday night at Compton Family Ice Arena.
Notre Dame (5-3-0, 0-2-0 B1G), scored three unanswered goals in the first period. Holy Cross (1-6-1, 1-2-1 AHA) held the Irish scoreless in the second and junior
Mike Higgins put the Crusaders on the board to bring the score to 3-1.
Mike Higgins' goal was his second of the season. Freshman
Matt Shatsky and junior
Alex Peterson were credited with the helpers. Shatsky's assist, marked the first collegiate point of his career.
The Irish put one more on the board in the early goings of the third period to take the score to 4-1. Senior
Ryan Leibold then scored the final Crusader goal of the game to push the score to 4-2. Peterson claimed his second assist of the night on Leibold's goal. The Irish scored an empty net goal in the final three minutes to bring the final score to 5-2.
Junior
Matt Radomsky finished with 22 saves and senior
Matt Slick led all players with three blocks.
