BOSTON, Mass. – Freshman forward
Jon Klein scored his third goal of the year, but the Holy Cross men's soccer team was defeated by Boston University 3-1 at Nickerson Field. The Crusaders conclude the regular season at 8-7-3 overall and 5-3-1 in the Patriot League, while the Terriers finish the season at 4-9-3 overall and 3-4-2 in the conference.
Boston University opened the scoring in the 23rd minute when Eitan Rosen found the net from 15 yards out on the left side off a pass from Miles Dycaico. The Terriers added a second goal in the 49th minute on a penalty kick by Quinn Matulis after a foul in the box, then made the score 3-0 in 87th minute on a goal by Brian Hernandez. Holy Cross put a goal on the board in the 89th minute when Klein headed in a cross from senior midfielder
Max Krause, but Boston University was able to hold on for the win.
The Crusaders finished the night with a 23-11 advantage in shots and a 7-6 edge in corner kicks.
Holy Cross will be the No. 3 seed in the 2021 Patriot League Tournament, and will play host to Army West Point in the quarterfinals on Saturday, Nov. 6, at 6:00 p.m.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
• Krause's assist was his ninth of the season, just one shy of the school single-season record (10 by Dean Casagrande in 1982).
• The Crusaders' third-place finish in the Patriot League regular season standings is their best in a non-divisional year since 2013.
