Men’s soccer falls to Army 1-0 in Patriot League quarterfinals

WORCESTER, Mass. – Army's Oscar Pereira scored the only goal of the night to lead the Black Knights to a 1-0 victory over the Holy Cross men's soccer team at Linda Johnson Smith Stadium in the quarterfinals of the Patriot League Tournament. The Crusaders finish the season at 8-8-3 overall, while Army improves to 8-7-2 on the year and moves on to face Loyola (Md.) in the semifinals.

The game was scoreless until the 71st minute when Pereira scored what proved to be the game-winning goal. The play began with a throw in by Nick Atkinson from the right side into the penalty box. Dylan Mitchiner then headed the ball in front of the goal to Pereira, who volleyed it home from 10 yards out.

Junior goalkeeper Jimmy Joyce had one save for Holy Cross, while Jacob Suppiah made two saves for the Black Knights.

The Crusaders finished the night with a 7-5 advantage in shots and a 5-4 edge in corner kicks.

The 2021 season is now complete for the Crusaders.
