SMITHFIELD, R.I.— Senior
Madison Demski tallied a career-high 23 points to spark a comeback victory over the Bryant Bulldogs, 67-49, on Sunday afternoon.
Demski shot 8-of-12 from the field to more than double her previous career-high for the Crusaders (3-3). She also chipped in six boards. Sophomore
Cara McCormack tallied a season-high 13 points and sophomore
Bronagh Power-Cassidy was the other double-digit scorers with 11.
Bryant (1-6) was led by Brooke Bjelko who recorded 17 points and eight rebounds.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- In a low scoring first quarter, Bryant opened up an early 5-0 lead before Demski recorded the Crusaders' first basket of the game. The Bulldogs closed out the first quarter with a 7-4 advantage in points to take a 12-6 lead into the second.
- The Crusaders went on a 9-0 run to start the second frame and took their first lead of the game with the score at 15-12 after McCormack hit her seventh points of the game. With just over a minute to go and down 22-20, senior Kelly Petro hit a big two and hit on the and one to give Holy Cross the lead back at 23-22. However, the Bulldogs managed to hit two quick layups and led 26-25 at the half.
- Holy Cross' offense came alive in the third, scoring 22 points in total. After Bryant tallied two points, the Crusaders went on a 10-0 run with senior Avery LaBarbera chipping in five of those points. Holy Cross ended the quarter with a 47-35 lead.
- In the final frame, Power-Cassidy claimed six of her 11 points to help the Crusaders close out the game with a 67-49 victory.
BEYOND THE BOX:
- LaBarbera tallied a season-high six assists.
- Junior Addisyn Cross has recorded one assist in every game this season and has notched five assists in her past two games.
