The Holy Cross men's basketball team will continue play in the Sunshine Slam this weekend, with a pair of games at the Ocean Center in Daytona Beach, Fla.
The Crusaders will be competing in a bracket with Air Force, Bethune-Cookman and Bryant. The semifinals will take place on Saturday, Nov. 20, with Bethune-Cookman facing Bryant in the first game at 12:00 p.m., followed by Holy Cross and Air Force at 2:30 p.m. The consolation game will be played on Sunday, Nov. 21, at 12:00 p.m., with the championship game to follow at 2:30 p.m. All of the contests will be shown live by FloHoops.
The Crusaders stand 1-2 so far this year, defeating Regis (98-51) and falling to Boston College (85-55) and Quinnipiac (76-68). Freshman guard
Kyrell Luc has led Holy Cross by averaging 13.3 points, 3.3 assists and 3.0 rebounds per game, while hitting 40.0 percent (four of eight) of his attempts from three-point range. Sophomore guard
Judson Martindale is also off to a strong start this season with averages of 13.0 points and 4.7 rebounds per game. In addition, sophomore guard
Bo Montgomery (13.0 points per game) and senior guard
Malcolm Townsel (11.7 points per game) are scoring in double figures. Now in their third year under head coach
Brett Nelson, the Crusaders are coming off an abbreviated 2020-2021 season in which they played only Patriot League foes and went 5-11 overall.Â
Air Force enters the weekend with a 2-1 overall record, coming off a 61-57 victory over Texas Southern on Wednesday night. Senior guard A.J. Walker leads the Falcons by averaging 12.0 points and 3.0 rebounds per game so far this year.Â
Bethune-Cookman stands 0-3 overall this season and was defeated by Utah 86-55 in its last game on Monday. Junior guard Damani McEntire has led the Wildcats with averages of 15.0 points, 4.5 rebounds and 4.5 steals per contest, while hitting 64.3 percent of his field goal attempts.Â
Bryant has an overall record of 1-2 so far this year, following Monday's 93-70 loss at Clemson. Junior guard Charles Pride leads the Bulldogs by averaging 19.3 points and 6.3 rebounds per game, while hitting 42.1 percent of his three-point attempts.
After this weekend's games, Holy Cross will return home to face Mount St. Vincent at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 24.
