Crusaders rally past Colgate 3-2 in overtime

WORCESTER, Mass. – Junior forward Rachel Perry scored in overtime to lift the Holy Cross field hockey team to a 3-2 victory over Colgate at the Hart Turf Field. The Crusaders improve to 5-6 overall and 1-3 in the Patriot League with the win, while the Raiders fall to 0-9 on the year and 0-3 in the conference.

Holy Cross opened the scoring in the first quarter when freshman forward Meggan Fourie scored off a pass from sophomore forward Allie McDonough. Colgate responded with a second quarter goal by Carter Leahy, then pulled in front in the third quarter on a goal by Taylor Casamassa. In the fourth quarter, the Crusaders tied up the game to force overtime when sophomore midfielder Katie Guden knocked home a pass from senior forward Keely Smith. Perry then won the game for Holy Cross 2:56 into overtime, scoring off a pass from junior forward Sinead Walsh.

Junior goalkeeper Emma Lauber made eight saves on the night, including a diving stop early in overtime to keep the Crusaders in the game. Anna Unger had four saves for the Raiders.

Holy Cross returns to action on Monday, Oct. 11, when they travel to UMass Lowell for a 1:00 p.m. game.
