DURHAM, N.H. – The Holy Cross women's ice hockey team couldn't hold off the University of New Hampshire, falling 4-2 on Sunday, Oct. 31 at the Whittemore Center Arena.
The Crusaders (1-8-0, 0-6-0 Hockey East) notched a pair of goals, including the game-opening tally, in a high-scoring first period. After a scoreless second, UNH (2-5-1, 2-5-1 Hockey East) broke through in the third to earn the victory.

Madison Beck made 33 saves in the contest for Holy Cross.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Sophomore right wing Bryn Saarela opened the game with a power-play goal just 2:08 into the contest to give Holy Cross a 1-0 lead.
- The Wildcats tied the game up just over a minute later, but freshman left wing Michela Lio scored on a breakaway to put the Crusaders back on top, 2-1, at 9:33 of the first.
- UNH evened up the game at 16:58 of the first with a goal from Tamara Thierus.
- The Wildcats took a 3-2 lead after Kira Juodikis scored 3:08 into the third period.
- Thierus had an empty-netter with under two minutes remaining to seal the win for the Wildcats.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
- Lio's goal was the first of her collegiate career; three freshmen have recorded a goal for the Crusaders this season.
