HAMILTON, N.Y. – Junior forward
Katie Quinn scored her team-leading fifth goal of the season, but the Holy Cross women's soccer team was defeated by Colgate 3-1 at Beyer-Small Field. The Crusaders finish the year at 1-15-1 overall and 0-8-1 in the Patriot League, while the Raiders move their final record to 7-8-2 overall and 3-4-2 in the conference.
Holy Cross opened the scoring in the 35th minute, when Quinn took a pass from junior midfielder
Melanie Lytle just inside the top left side of the penalty box and knocked a shot off the right post and into the net. Colgate tied the score at 1-1 in the 49th minute, as Emily Amano headed in a corner kick by Ruby Diodati.
The Raiders pulled in front in the 69th minute, when Diodati's free kick was headed in front of the goal by Jenna Borovinsky, where Amano scored from four yards out. Colgate went on to add an insurance goal in the 88th minute, as Paige Foa scored from 12 yards out in the center of the box off a cross from Adrienne Vaughn.
Freshman goalkeeper
Olivia Dubin made six saves on the night for the Crusaders, while Grace Poncsak had three saves for the Raiders.
Colgate finished the game with a 17-5 advantage in shots and a 6-3 edge in corner kicks.
The 2021 season is now complete for the Crusaders.
