PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Senior midfielder
Max Krause tallied a goal and an assist, but the Holy Cross men's soccer team was defeated by Brown 3-2 at Stevenson-Pincince Field. The Crusaders fall to 8-6-2 overall, while the Bears improve to 4-8-1 on the year.
Holy Cross opened the scoring in the 42nd minute when Krause sent a long pass into the box, where freshman forward
Evan Jones played the ball off his chest before knocking it into the net with his left foot from six yards out. Brown came back to tie the score at 1-1 in the 51st minute, as Kojo Dadzie headed in a Will Crain corner kick from eight yards out on the left side.
The Bears pulled ahead in the 58th minute, when Derek Waleffe found the net from 25 yards out in the center off a pass from Zakary Lawal. Brown then made the score 3-1 in the 77th minute, as Jack Cloherty put home a rebound after a shot by Mike Balleani was saved. The Crusaders responded less than a minute later, when Krause scored from 24 yards away on the left side off a pass from freshman midfielder
Ivor Teagle. But Holy Cross was not able to score again, as the Bears held on for the victory.
Brown finished the night with a 14-8 edge in shots and a 13-4 advantage in corner kicks.
The Crusaders return to action on Saturday, Oct. 30, when they play host to Lafayette at 12:00 p.m.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
• Krause now ranks ninth in school history with 49 career points on 14 goals and 21 assists.
• Jones' goal was his eighth this year, which leads the team.
