WORCESTER, Mass. – Senior midfielder
Max Krause scored a pair of goals as the Holy Cross men's soccer team posted a 4-1 victory over Bucknell at Linda Johnson Smith Stadium. The Crusaders improve to 8-3-2 overall and 5-1-0 in the Patriot League, while the Bison fall to 4-8-2 on the year and 2-3-1 in the conference.
The game was scoreless until the 45th minute, when freshman forward
Evan Jones knocked in a pass senior defender
Nick Hellmann-Rhodes just before halftime to put Holy Cross up 1-0. Bucknell tied the score at 1-1 in the 64th minute on a goal by Jameson Railey, and the Crusaders were forced to play the rest of the game a man down following a red card.
But the Holy Cross then came to life, scoring twice in the next three minutes to take a 3-1 lead. Krause scored what proved to be the game-winning goal in the 65th minute, then freshman midfielder
Jake Williams added a goal in the 67th minute. The Crusaders would put the game away on Krause's second goal of the afternoon in the 87th minute.
Holy Cross finished the day with an 18-6 advantage in shots and a 6-3 edge in corner kicks.
Holy Cross returns to action on Tuesday, Oct. 19, when it plays host to Harvard at 7:00 p.m.
