WORCESTER, Mass. – Freshman forward
Evan Jones tallied a goal and an assist, but the Holy Cross men's soccer team was defeated by Harvard 3-2 at Linda Johnson Smith Stadium. The Crusaders fall to 8-4-2 overall, while the Crimson improve to 5-4-3 on the year.

Harvard opened the scoring in the 11th minute when Martin Vician knocked in a cross by Cornelius Bencsik from six yards out in the center. Holy Cross came back in the 24th minute, as Jones headed in a corner kick from freshman midfielder
Jake Williams, and the score was tied 1-1 at the half.

The Crimson pulled back in front in the 54th minute, when Williem Ebbinge found James Fahmy just inside the top of the box for a goal from 16 yards out in the center. The Crusaders responded again in the 60th minute on a goal by junior midfielder
Matt McGonigle. Senior midfielder
Max Krause won a loose ball near midfield and sent a pass Jones on the left side, before Jones crossed the ball to McGonigle in the right center of the box where he scored from 12 yards out.

But in the 88th minute, Harvard would score the game-winning goal as Bencsik one-timed a pass from Fahmy from 14 yards out in the left side of the box.

The Crusaders finished the night with a 13-6 advantage in shots and a 6-2 edge in corner kicks.

Holy Cross returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 23, when it travels to Army West Point for a 7:00 p.m. game.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
• The loss snapped the Crusaders' eight-game home winning streak, which was tied for the longest in program history.
• Jones' goal was his team-leading seventh on the season.
• Krause's assist was the 20th of his collegiate career.
