WORCESTER, Mass. – Freshman forward
Evan Jones scored the only goal of the game as the Holy Cross men's soccer team defeated Lehigh 1-0 at Linda Johnson Smith Stadium. The Crusaders improve to 7-3-2 overall and 4-1-0 in the Patriot League, while the Mountain Hawks fall to 1-9-2 on the year and 1-4-0 in the conference.
The game was scoreless until the 41st minute, when junior midfielder
Jack Ostrosky sent a long pass from the right side of the field to senior midfielder
Max Krause in lower left corner of penalty box. Krause then sent a cross in front of goal, where Jones flicked the ball with his foot just inside the right post from four yards out in the center. Neither team scored the rest of the way, as Holy Cross pulled out the victory.
Junior goalkeeper
Jimmy Joyce made one save in net while posting his fourth shutout of the season.
The Mountain Hawks finished the day with an 11-10 advantage in shots, while the Crusaders held a 7-3 edge in corner kicks.
Holy Cross returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 16, when it plays host to Bucknell at 12:00 p.m.
