WORCESTER, Mass. – The Holy Cross women's ice hockey team fell to No. 2 Northeastern, 5-0, in the Crusaders' home opener on Friday, Oct. 1.
Junior defenseman
Kailey Langefels blocked eight shots while senior
Emma Lange and sophomore
Vaia Graves blocked six each. Senior goaltender
Jada Brenon ended the night with 42 saves, and sophomore goalie
Madison Beck added in 11 saves in 12 minutes of action.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Northeastern (1-0) gained an early advantage, scoring just 2:46 into the contest and adding three more goals over the next 12 minutes to lead 4-0 after one frame.
- The Crusaders (0-1) stabilized things in the next period, with Brenon making 18 saves in a clean second frame.
- Holy Cross held Northeastern without a goal for nearly 40 minutes, until Chloe Aurard added on a shorthanded tally to extend the Huskies' lead to 5-0 at 13:44 of the third.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
- As a team, the Crusaders blocked 38 shots – their highest total in a game in the Hockey East era.
