Men's basketball ready for series with Army West Point

The Holy Cross men's basketball team will be back in action this weekend when it faces Army West Point in a pair of games. The Crusaders and the Black Knights will meet in Worcester on Saturday, Jan. 9, at 3:00 p.m., and then play at West Point on Sunday, Jan. 10, at 3:00 p.m. Both contests will be shown live by the Patriot League on ESPN+.

The Crusaders stand 1-1 overall this year, after splitting a pair of games with Boston University. The Terriers won 83-76 in Worcester on Monday, before Holy Cross posted a 68-66 victory in Boston on Tuesday. Senior guard Austin Butler has led the team by averaging 21.0 points, 7.5 rebounds and a Patriot League-best 3.0 steals per game, while hitting 64.3 percent of his field goal attempts and 62.5 percent of his three-pointers. Junior forward Gerrale Gates has added 19.0 points and 7.5 boards per contest, while senior forward Matt Faw is chipping in with 13.0 points, 5.5 rebounds and a Patriot League-high 2.0 blocked shots per game.

Army owns an overall record of 5-2 on the season with a 1-1 mark in Patriot League play. After going 4-1 in non-conference action, the Black Knights split a pair of games at Colgate last weekend (falling 101-57 on Saturday before winning 75-73 on Sunday). Senior guard Lonnie Grayson has led Army by averaging 12.7 points, 5.0 rebounds and 2.1 assists per game, while hitting 40.4 percent of his shots from three-point range. Junior guard Josh Caldwell has put up 9.9 points, 6.6 boards, 2.3 assists and 2.3 steals per contest, with senior forward Alex King contributing 9.3 points and 4.3 rebounds per game. 

After the series with the Black Knights, Holy Cross will travel to Colgate for a pair of games on Jan. 16 and 17.
