Game Recap: Women's Ice Hockey |

Women's hockey comes up short at Vermont

BURLINGTON, Vt. – The Holy Cross women's hockey team lost to Vermont 6-1 Saturday afternoon at Gutterson Fieldhouse.

The contest looked similar to Friday evening's as the Catamounts held possession and outshot the Crusaders. Jada Brenon made 14 saves in the first period and 24 total on the day. Sarah Street saw her first collegiate action in goal in relief of Brenon in the third, stopping six shots.

Sofia Smithson scored the lone Crusader goal of the afternoon in the third period when some nice stick work around a defender allowed the sophomore to get face-to-face with the UVM goalie. She fired off two shots, the second of which found the back of the net. Lilly Feeney assisted on the play.

The game was tight through one period as Vermont scored 14 seconds into the game, but the Crusaders held them for the rest of the frame. Things opened up a bit more after that as the Catamounts scored five times over the second and third. Like Friday's game, each Vermont goal was scored by a different player.

UP NEXT:
Holy Cross is currently scheduled to take the ice next on Jan. 15 and 16 for a home-and-home with Boston College.
