HAMILTON, N.Y. – Senior forward
Matt Faw recorded his second career double-double with 14 points and a career-best 11 rebounds, but the Holy Cross men's basketball team was defeated by Colgate 95-55 at Cotterell Court. The Crusaders fall to 2-3 overall and 2-3 in the Patriot League with the loss, while the Raiders improve to 4-1 on the season and 4-1 in the conference.
Holy Cross was only able to connect on 41.8 percent of its field goal attempts and 11.1 percent of its shots from three-point range. Colgate knocked down 48.0 percent of its shots from the floor and 48.3 percent of three-pointers, while posting a 46-30 rebounding advantage.
The game was close early on, with the Raiders holding a 9-8 lead after the first 6:23 of action. Colgate then went on a 12-2 run to extend its lead to double figures, and led by as many as 21 (36-15) late in the first half. The Crusaders were able to trim the margin down to 15 points (41-26) before the Raiders to a 44-28 advantage into the locker room at halftime.
Holy Cross was down by 14 (46-32) with 18 minutes left to play, when Colgate scored the next 15 points to put the game away. The Raiders then pulled away down the stretch to win by 40 (95-55).
The Crusaders return to action on Sunday, Jan. 17, when they play at Colgate once again, with a 1:00 p.m. tipoff.
