WORCESTER, Mass. – Senior forward Lauren Manis, a member of the Holy Cross women's basketball team, has been selected as the 2019-20 Crusader of the Year. The most prestigious student-athlete award presented by the Holy Cross Varsity Club, the Crusader of the Year goes to a senior who has excelled not only in varsity athletics, but also in the classroom and the community, and has been prominent in campus activities.
A four-year starter for the Crusaders, Manis finished her collegiate career with 2,020 points and 1,188 rebounds, breaking the school and Patriot League records in rebounds and becoming the first basketball player in school history with 2,000 career points and 1,000 career rebounds. She ranks third in program history in career points and second with 58 career double-doubles. During her senior season, Manis averaged 18.6 points and 11.5 rebounds per game while shooting 46.3 percent from three-point range. She ranked fourth among all Division I players with 20 double-doubles, and finished fifth with 344 total rebounds. Manis earned All-Patriot League honors during each of her four years, including first-team distinction in each of the last three seasons.
A volunteer at Working for Worcester, the Mercy Centre and the St. John's Food Pantry, Manis was also a tutor at the Heard St. Elementary School and a participant in the annual UMass Cancer Walk. In addition, she was selected to the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll during her junior season.
Manis will be presented with the Crusader of the Year award at the 65th annual Holy Cross Varsity Club Hall of Fame Dinner & Ceremonial Banquet, which will take place later this year.
