WORCESTER, Mass. – Senior Allie Smiley, a member of the Holy Cross women's track and field team, has been selected as the 2019-20 winner of the John A. Meegan Athletic Achievement Award. Presented by the Holy Cross Varsity Club, the Meegan Award goes to a student-athlete, regardless of class, who competed in a sport other than football, baseball and basketball, and who attained outstanding achievement during his or her college career. This award is given by the club in memory of the late John A. Meegan (Class of 1939), loyal follower of all Crusader sports and esteemed treasurer of the Varsity Club from 1988 to 1996.
Smiley was a two-time Patriot League champion in the long jump, placing first in the event at the 2019 outdoor championship and the 2020 indoor championship. She set the school outdoor record in the long jump (6.03 meters) when she placed third at the 2018 Patriot League Championship, in addition to setting the school indoor record in the long jump (5.90 meters) with a second-place finish at the 2020 ECAC Championship. Smiley also ran a leg on the outdoor 4x100-meter relay team which holds the school record with a time of 46.43 seconds.
Over the course of her collegiate career, Smiley earned All-ECAC honors three times in both the indoor (2018, 2019 and 2020) and outdoor (2017, 2018 and 2019) seasons. She was also a three-time All-New England honoree during the indoor season (2017, 2018 and 2020), and was named All-Patriot League twice (2019 outdoor and 2020 indoor).
Smiley will be presented with the Meegan Award at the 65th annual Holy Cross Varsity Club Hall of Fame Dinner & Ceremonial Banquet, which will take place later this year.
