FAIRFIELD, Conn. – For the first time in their last three meetings, the women's lacrosse team defeated Fairfield, 10-8.
Grace Flink took home her first career win with a 10 save performance.
Jolie Creo and
Bryn Carroll each netted four goals to lead the Crusaders past the Stags and to their first win of 2020. Holy Cross opened the season with a win for the first time since 2013.
Kara McDuffee scored her first goal since the 2017 season to open the game with the help of Creo. The Crusaders jumped to a 2-0 lead before Fairfield tied things up. The teams traded two-goal runs for the remainder of the opening half for a score of 5-5.
At the 23:18 mark of the second half, Creo notched a hat trick and triggered a three-goal run for the Crusaders to put them ahead, 9-6, with 15 minutes to play. The Stags battled back to play within one goal, 9-8, with 2:57 to play.
In her first career start, Flink made six saves in the second half to help the Crusaders preserve the lead. With under one minute to play, Carroll netted her fourth goal on a man-up situation to secure their first victory of 2020, 10-8.
